Dictates, Definitions, & Demarcations

How is masculinity constructed? What are the requirements for being a “real man”? For years, men dominated gender. Then the “women’s movement” sparked a huge shift, and men disappeared. What has been the impact of that cultural change? What exactly is masculinity?

In the latest YES Institute course, you will explore the dictates imposed on people who seek to express themselves as masculine. Rarely is gender examined as the relational construct it is—far more interesting than the mythical construct pitting men versus women.

This course will almost certainly challenge what you already know. It will also provide a broader framework for inquiry about the function of gender in how we relate to one another. If you have a serious interest in understanding gender, or just want to connect more authentically with the people in your life, this course is for you!

Workshop Duration

This workshop contains 8 hours of in-class time.* Provides 8 continuing education units (CEUs) to nursing and mental health professionals, and 8 master plan points (MPPs) to Miami-Dade County Public School teachers and counselors.
