At the invitation of Habsi Kaba, MSW with the Crisis Intervention Team of Miami-Dade Police Department,YES went to the 11th Judicial Circuit Mental Health
Project to train Miami-Dade Police Officers. She shared, "Initially,
there was a definite discomfort level with the
subject matter, snickers and jokes were exchanged
around the first hour. By the second hour, the
speaker elicited discussion on the real questions
and fears, and the presentation was ultimately

Police often appear somewhat reluctant at the
prospect of enduring discussions on gender and
orientation. Few professions box in gender
expectations more than law enforcement. Learning
about the latest research on gender, and being
able to see it from a new perspective, soon made it
relevant and engaging. What followed was many
eager questions, which on this day fell to Joseph
