Colleges and universities around the country seek out YES Institute education on gender and orientation as the most cutting-edge and innovative. New understandings of gender and orientation are impacting every institution in our society, and many universities are stepping forward to equip both students and faculty with information they need to adapt to a changing world.
As knowledge continues to evolve, new definitions, policies, and behaviors may be necessary to acclimatize the environment and educate people at every level of the university system. Most of all, purposeful dialogue that welcomes all viewpoints will be a necessary component for making classrooms and campuses safe and inclusive.
YES Institute regularly visits university classrooms--graduate and undergraduate--to conduct educational presentations on gender and orientation. Our trained speakers facilitate interactive discussions, giving participants an opportunity to explore a new paradigm through their own experiences. YES also provides training for academic advisors, faculty, administrators, resident advisors, and student athletes.
Our partnerships in South Florida include: Barry University, Carlos Albizu University, Florida International University, Johnson & Wales University, Miami Dade College, Nova Southeastern University, St. Thomas University, and the University of Miami. We have an ongoing partnership with North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega, Georgia, where we have facilitated graduate-level courses on gender and communication via videoconference. “I feel like I’m fighting in a world that keeps trying to change me. Now I feel empowered to let myself--and others--just be.” - Kyle L., student at Florida International University
“I clearly see now that none of the labels we use on a daily basis fits perfectly for any individual. This is a valuable lesson. It will allow me to celebrate the wonderful display of diversity, and to honor people however they identify.” - Nick T., student at Boston College
“This training revealed how much I don’t know about the impact of gender in people’s lives. I am recommending that YES material be included in our curriculum.” - Medical student at Nova Southeastern University
“Most of my studies on gender and orientation have remained in the realm of the abstract. YES’ courses shifted my focus away from theory to actual lived experience, and put me in touch with how expectations around gender and orientation profoundly impact my life.” - Iman J., student at Harvard University
“My students are predominantly Latin and Caribbean, and their exposure to these topics is often limited or lacking. Evaluations consistently reflect YES trainings as unique, moving, and the high point of the semester. Truly a powerful learning experience.” - Dr. Carol Clark, professor at Carlos Albizu University |
